Content rules open new manufacturing plant

Published by Steve Coleman on May 22, 2012

Canadian content rules for Montreal's metro have led to a new Alstom manufacturing plant in Sorel, Que.

The new plant is expected to play a key role in the $1.2 billion contact between the Bombardier-Alstom consortium and the Société de Transport de Montréal for 468 new subway cars for the Montréal metro.
According to the contract, 60 per cent of each train must be made using Canadian content.

The Alstom plant at Sorel-Tracy will be the location where the trucks for Montréal's new subway cars will be assembled and "integrated" during the eight-year contract for the vehicles. The contract is expected to provide work for 300 at Alstom.
