Employment increases in Ontario for June

Published by Stephanie Brooks on July 06, 2012

While overall employment figures were relatively unchanged for June 2012, Statistics Canada’s most recent Labour Force Survey shows an increase in employment in Ontario by 20,000.

Employment gains were felt in business, building, and other support services; health care and social assistance; educational services; and utilities. However, the increases were offset by decreases in information, culture and recreations, and agriculture.

The natural resources sector experienced the largest jump among all industries, up almost 11 per cent over the previous 12 months.

The unemployment rate decreased slightly 0.1 percentage points to 7.2 per cent.
