Sanctions eased against Myanmar

Published by Steve Coleman on April 24, 2012

Canada has relaxed sanctions against Myanmar.

The island nation was removed from the Area Control List on April 24, the list of countries where Canada deems it necessary to control the export and transfer of any goods and technology.

Exporters of uncontrolled goods and technology (items not listed on Canada's Export Control List) no longer require an export permit issued under the authority of the Export and Import Permits Act in order to lawfully export those items to Myanmar.

Not all of the sanctions against the country were lifted, however. Some still remain in place.
