More than expected US residents out of work

Published by Steve Coleman on April 26, 2012

US initial jobless claims say 388,000 more Americans were out of work the week ending April 21.

The number of US workers reporting they'd lost their jobs during the week was higher than the predicted 375,000 predicted for the week.

Ongoing claims crept up 3,000 to 3,315,000 in the week ending April 14, following a 41,000 rise to 3,312,000 the previous week.

It marked the third-straight week that the number of newly unemployed was in the 388,000-389,000 range. In March, the numbers were in the 362,000-364,000 range.
