CME launches national Manufacturing Management Certificate with Athabasca University

Published by Brad Fougere on January 25, 2016

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters is pleased to announce the national rollout of its new online Manufacturing Management Certificate (MMC), delivered in partnership with Athabasca University.

The MMC is the first-of-its-kind course designed to provide the necessary applied skills training to develop and nurture new managers and supervisors from within existing manufacturing operations. Each course is delivered online through Athabasca University over a span of four weeks, and requires approximately 8-12 hours per week for readings, discussions and assignments.

“Employers and employees will both benefit from our new MMC program,” says CME President and CEO Jayson Myers. “Our members recognize that there is a significant skills gap in the field of manufacturing management. MMC is a program that can help close that gap by providing the skills necessary for promoting production or operations employees into supervisory or management positions.”

The MMC prepares participants for long-term success in manufacturing management by providing immediately applicable knowledge, skills and strong peer mentorship. Academic coaches are not only world-class instructors; they are also world-class practitioners — respected leaders with extensive, global industry experience.  Unlike many professional development programs, each course within the MMC has clear learning objectives and deliverables, and requires participants to demonstrate their learning — without requiring travel to a classroom.

CME’s national roll-out comes after a successful pilot in Saskatchewan. “The Manufacturing Management Certificate almost feels like mentorship,” says MMC recipient Chad Fenwick, Assistant Brach Manager at Ardel Steel.  “You can bounce ideas off other people in industry, and the academic coaches are irreplaceable. Never having that formal education in leadership, this course has just opened my eyes."
