Average weekly earnings up in every province for April

Statistics Canada’s Payroll employment, earnings and hours report released today shows average weekly earnings increased in April in all Canadian provinces.

Earnings increased in every province in the 12 months, with the highest growth seen in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees were $896.63, higher than March by one per cent. On a year-over-year basis, earnings increased by about three per cent. 

Average hours worked per week also contributed to the rise in earnings. In April, non-farm payroll employees worked an average of 33 hours a week, up from 32.9 the previous month.
