CAW steps up campaign against Caterpillar

Canadian Auto Workers have stepped up their campaign against Caterpillar's demands for a wage and benefit cut at the company's Electro-Motive lockout in London, Ont.
The union established information pickets Thursday morning in: St. John's, Nfld.; Dartmouth, NS; Montreal, Que.; Chicoutimi, Que.; Concord, Ont.; London, Windsor, St. Catharines and Sudbury, Ont.; Winnipeg, Man.; and Vancouver, BC.
After demanding that wages and benefits be cut in half, Caterpillar locked out almost 500 workers with CAW Local 27 on New Year's Day.
"This is greedy, and frankly immoral, behaviour coming from a profitable corporation," said Ken Lewenza, CAW National President. "At a time when inequality is rapidly growing it's vital that we take a stand with this company," he added.
Union members have also launched a campaign of radio ads in several communities to tie in with the information pickets.
